Ephemeral I

Glass

34 x 24 x 17cm

"Can something so delicate capture the essence of movement and energy, or does it shatter under its own weight?" This question guided the creation of Ephemeral I, a sculpture exploring the fleeting nature of moments.

Glass, with its duality—fluid and moldable when hot, yet rigid and permanent when cooled—perfectly embodies the tension between impermanence and preservation. The sculpture captures a frozen moment in time, as if a splash of water was crystallized or a frond suspended mid-unfurling, preserving the chaotic beauty of fluid dynamics in solid form.

For me, the act of working with glass reflects humanity’s inherent desire to preserve fleeting moments. From the strokes of oil paintings to the immediacy of photographs, our creations often attempt to defy the passage of time. While nothing truly lasts forever, the effort itself holds profound meaning.

In this piece, I allowed the glass to guide its creation, working spontaneously to capture the moment of transformation. The final form reflects the forces it experienced—gravity, heat, and time—becoming both a tangible object and a memory of its own making. It stands as a testament to the beauty of impermanence and the human impulse to make the ephemeral eternal.
