Iris of Anxieties

Glass

40 x 36 x 18cm

This piece is a reflection of my personal experience with anxiety and how it unfolds within me. The delicate glass web represents the fragility of my inner world—a space meant to hold emotions, yet one that feels constantly at risk of breaking under pressure. The process of weaving the glass mirrors the effort it takes to hold myself together, piece by piece, even as external and internal forces pull at the threads.

The irises blooming along the edges carry deep symbolism. Traditionally, irises represent hope and transformation, but here their blood-red and white hues reflect a tension between pain and fragile beauty. I chose irises because they remind me of resilience—how even in the midst of turmoil, something meaningful can grow.

The gradual shift from clear glass to crimson along the edges mirrors the creeping nature of anxiety—subtle at first, but increasingly overwhelming. This piece captures the delicate balance between vulnerability and strength, and I hope it resonates with anyone who has felt the weight of their own emotions and still found moments of beauty within the struggle.
